Slumlord life
Are you hanging on the edge of your seat??
Well....the reason I won't be returning to my favorite place for the next ten months isn't that the bank repossessed the cabin (yet), it is because I have decided to try out being a landlord!
We bought this cabin as an investment, but it quickly became OUR place and I got very emotionally invested.
So it took a pretty big shake up to push me off the rental cliff, but I was shoved recently so here we are.
Within a matter of minutes following listing the cabin on Zillow, I had dozens of applications! I would like to pat us on the back and say it is due to how amazing our renovations are, but the reality is there is a huge housing shortage up here in the mountains, and I could probably rent out a cardboard box if it was insulated and had WiFi.
After creating a listing, I met with a bunch of potential renters, and found a couple that I am feeling really great about. They are stoked about the location and are home owners themselves, so I am hoping that means they don't trash the place. If they do, I have a giant deposit and will haunt them for the rest of their lives though.
As I do with most things in life, I have entered slumlord life with little to no skill or research. I tend to dive right in and hope for the best. So far it is going pretty smooth, but we just started this wild ride so time will tell. I just hope the renters love Alma and the cabin half as much as I do.
So here goes nothing, wish me luck!
