From the window, to the wall...

I am excited to report that in honor of our nation's and my baby boy Fred's birthdays this year, we installed a new doorwall at the cabin. What's a doorwall you ask? Well that's what only people in Michigan call a sliding patio door apparently. I never knew this door by any other name, but when the door guys at the Depot looked at me in utter confusion when I asked about options for them, I realized it was just a Michigan thing. That said, I have personally walked into so many doorwalls in my life and only used that phrase to scream swears at...so the name is set in stone for me. this is me, exhausted from carrying that beast just about twenty feet Our bedroom at the cabin is actually the smaller of the two rooms (by a hair, both are mini rooms) but it features a giant glass door to look into the forest from bed, so we made it our room and the larger one is the guest room. The door that was in place when we moved in was both painted shut and also rotting at the bottom. ...

The bathroom at the cabin was really not so bad! The tile while not exactly what I would have picked is in great shape, and the vanity was even in decent shape. The demo was a synch, and we had the old vanity and mirror out in no time. But when we went to install the new one we reali...

Nothing says freedom like a washing machine

After a long hiatus on cabin projects because Jose went to live as a sister wife in Utah for the summer, we are back at it and I could not be happier. This past weekend, we rented a Uhaul truck and loaded it with every Facebook marketplace find I could finagle and celebrated the Fourth of July with some construction and PBR. The Uhaul rental was a brilliant idea by my assistant Jose, we were able to rent it in Denver and drop it off near the cabin which was really convenient. Naturally the drop off at the cabin was strange, and was located in a campground. You also can buy eggs at the tow truck shop, so I guess it is par for the course. With the Uhaul we were able to take up the doorwall (or sliding glass door if you aren't from michigan), a washer/dryer combo, a vanity, a dresser, a nightstand, and most importantly our canoe!  full disclosure, I referred to that Panda as a racoon for the first full day... We didn't know we would be renting the Uhaul until a few days before the...
